How does this work?
Create an account (this will take only a minute), or log in through your Facebook account and begin posting your articles or art works under one of the following categories: Politics (P), Business (B), Lifestyle (L), Science (S), The Humanities (Arts & Culture) (H) (PBLSH).
Once you have posted your work, it is up to the Café de la Pensée community to decide just how relevant your post is (ratings from -5 to +5), and how much it matters (positive ratings) or doesn’t matter (anti-matter – negative ratings).
Café de la Pensée will compute how much your postings matter/anti-matter (Café de la Pensée popularity index - CDLP Pop Index) (summation of all scores received), and how much controversy they generate (Café de la Pensée controversy index - CDLP Con Index) (a measure of the divergence of scores your postings received).
We will then sort your postings according to how much they matter and how much they anti-matter (CDLP Pop Index); and because we don’t want anyone’s contributions to potentially end up in a “blackhole,” Café de la Pensée will also sort postings according to how much controversy they generate (CDLP Con Index).
What do the indices mean?
As explained above, each posting has two indices: Popularity Index (POP) and Controversy Index (CON). The POP Index is a summation of all the scores (positive and negative) a posting receives. A positive POP index reflects how much a work is popular (matter) and a negative POP index reflects how much your work is unpopular (anti-matter). The CON index is the degree of differences among all the scores a posting receives, which essentially measures how controversial a posting is.
As a general rule, when the POP Index is smaller than the CON Index, this posting is deemed to be highly controversial. When the POP Index is approximately the same at the CON Index, the posting is moderately controversial. When the POP Index is greater than the CON Index, the posting is popular and is not very controversial.
When you sign into Café de la Pensée, you will have two setting options: “Global Café” and “My Café.“
The “Global Café” setting allows you to view all postings of all contributors to Café de la Pensée, sorted by time of posting, popularity and controversy.
The “My Café” setting allow you to view only the postings of the authors you have chosen to follow sorted by time of posting, popularity and controversy.
